Measurable - Answer the questions how much, how many and how long. You need to be able to tell when the goal is reached.
Attainable - Set small goals that you know you can reach with no problem. Setting your goals in 5 pound increments is easy and each time you lose 5 pounds you'll be building your self confidence. Losing 5 pounds sounds more attainable than losing 100 pounds.
Realistic - Your subconscious needs to know that the goal is actually attainable for it to help you stay on track. Losing 30 pounds in 30 days is not a realistic goal. It's best to aim for 5 pound weight losses each month. If you lose more than your goal then you'll have reason to celebrate! (Just not with food.)
Don't set a goal like "I'll never eat chocolate again." Believing you can never eat something again sets you up for failure from the beginning.
TimeLimit - Set a realistic timeframe for you to reach your goals. Such as "I will lose ten pounds by ... (a specific date)."

You Can Do It - I Did!
Diets DO work! I am proof.
Years ago, I weighed a mere 245 lbs. Yeah, really. I was in a very safe place. I had moved to California with a man I loved and he made me feel safe and taken care of. With that, I formulated in my mind that I wanted to lose the weight now. Finally! I had been fat since I was 5 and felt that it was time. Every night before I went to bed, I would imagine myself thinner. I did not really know what a size 10 would be yet I imagined it. I also imagined myself exercising. Yes, the "E" word. I found a diet that worked for me and went for it. I stayed on the diet (which was monitored each week by a nurse taking your blood) for a full year. I did not deviate until the nurse asked me what else I ate. When I said "nothing", she told me to have some popcorn to get my metabolism going again, which I did and it did. After about a month of being on the diet, I began to exercise for 4 minutes a day (not even 5!). I used my mini-trampoline and just jumped up and down while watching TV. After about another month, I increased it to 10 minutes. Then 15 and I added in a few minutes of arm exercises while I was doing that. I gradually increased the time until I was exercising about an hour and a half a day with 20 minutes of arm exercises thrown in for good measure (and to rid myself of the "wings" I had developed. In a year I reached my goal. I made reservations for a vacation with my girlfriend, bought all new clothes and off I went.
The feeling I go from losing the weight was as if a "weight" had been lifted off my shoulders as it did. I think my unending will and determination made it happen. It also helped that I believed in what I was doing and that I would one day reach my goal.
Then, as we all have had, stuff happens and I went up again. So three weeks ago, at my highest weight ever – 375, I went on a diet again. This time I am on NutriSystems, which, in my opinion, has the best tasting diet food ever. (And if you join them, please mention my name! Thanks.) My intention is to get down to my 135 lbs. again so I can fit into all those great clothes and look good too. I will continue to formulate my goal in my mind every night before I sleep and continue to believe that I can do it. Before I stated the diet, I consulted with my doctor and he was all for it. (You should consult with yours. At least that way we know we have more than one person pulling for us – our doctor and ourselves!)
It will be a long road, yet I think each and every one of us can do it. It takes a good will, a stick-to-it attitude and the belief that it CAN be done! Good luck.

Overweight Can Cause Ear Infections to Children
Scientists in South Korea revealed that there is a probable connection between body fat in children and particular kind of ear infection. But some specialists in the US doubt the research.
A study co-author Dr. Seung Geun Yeo, a researcher at Kyung Hee University in Seoul stated that they have to pay attention to lessen the obesity to children.
Ear infections remain very common in children; about 8 to 9 of every 10 kids are affected with such problem. The middle ear is the one being blamed by doctors because it usually does not fully drain fluids when it is developing.
Normally, doctors prescribed antibiotic though there is worry that the germs are developing immunity to the children.
In a new study, researchers examined two groups of kids which ages from 2 to 7. The 155 children had tubes set in the ears in order to help the kids drain the fluid and will recover from the ear infection. The 118 children were hospitalized for another reason.
The children were found to be suffering from a form of ear infection which known as otitis media with effusion. Ear ache and fever, some of ear infections' symptoms, aren't present when this condition occurs.
Based on their body mass index (BMI), a ratio of weight to height, the kids who were treated for ear infections were fatter than the other children. It showed that extra fat boosts the risk of ear infections; the total cholesterol was also higher.
Archives of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery were the study was published in the April issue.
Two American specialists of ear, nose and throat stated that they weren't impressed with the study that the South Korean made.
Dr. Jack Paradise, professor of pediatrics and otolaryngology at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine stated that one of the obvious problems was that the researchers did not compare similar groups of kids to each other. He also added that the study didn't look at the socioeconomic levels of the children. He said that it is hard to generalize medical trends by just looking at the hospital records, since there are a lot of factors that can affect kids whether they have tubes in their ears.
Dr. David Darrow, of Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, Va stated that the authors never gave a theory on how and why obesity can be connected to ear infections. The study lacks physiological explanation, he added.
Paradise said that there is no facts regarding the connection of obesity and ear infections, and it is not possible.
It's probable that childhood obesity may be connected with ear infections, Dr. Jordan S. Josephson, an otolaryngologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and author of Sinus Relief Now stated.
He stated that obesity can cause people to have huge appearance so their internal spaces become crowded by bulk. That is why their Eustachian tubes that drain their ears are narrowed, and which lead to otitis media with effusion.

Yoga Options for Managing Anxiety
Yoga has many options for ridding your body of toxins, negative energy, stress, and daily anxiety. Yoga postures (Asanas) are most commonly known, but Yoga breathing techniques (Pranayama) are very beneficial; most can be practiced any time of the day.

If you are going on holiday, you can use the gym or the exercise room in the hotel as an area to perform your yoga. Virtually all gyms will have a television and a vcr or dvd player. If you find a time when others are performing yoga, this will help you in keeping to your schedule. You can use the dvd or vcr player to insert your tapes and get busy performing your exercise routine.

The Purpose of Yoga - The Power of Knowing
Every Yoga teacher should make it a point to practice Jnana Yoga, on a daily basis, regardless of his or her style. The practice of Jnana Yoga is the continuing education of every Yoga teacher.
Jnana Yoga is union by knowledge. A Jnana Yoga practitioner may spend his or her life in the pursuit of knowledge, scripture, and truth, but what can any of us do if we do not hold the power to make changes within mighty governments and global corporate empires?
What can you do if you see the truth, but are unable to make governments, banks, corporate giants, or health care systems respond to it. In relation to this: A modest sage once told me, "Knowing is enough."
Knowing is enough - Is a saying that tells the poor and the middle-class to accept the truth, but we will not have the influence to make the "mighty" see the truth. A similar saying is, "Grin and bear it."
However, we no longer have to accept the unbearable with a grin. You and I can make changes in our governments and on this planet. They may be small changes, but you can make them on a regular basis.
For the very first time, people from anywhere in the world, can communicate through the use of the Internet. An American Yoga teacher and an Iranian Yoga teacher can have a conversation about Yoga, philosophy, how to play guitar, or anything else that people do.
If you realize that most people are generally good, then you also know that many different governments have foreign policies, which are wrong. Global warming is real, health care should be for everyone, and banking practices could be made to help the poor and middle-class.
There are many illusions, which the mighty would have you believe. So many politicians want peace in an election year, but why is history so full of wars? There must be profit in the manufacturing of weapons systems because the poor and the middle-class never seem to see the benefits of war.
Getting back to Yoga, the Internet, and what you can do. There are forums and blogs full of people from around the world. As Yoga students and Yoga teachers, we have a common bond with any Yoga practitioner from anywhere. Take the time to read the threads on the Yoga forums.
You will find that people, on the other side of the earth, have the same concerns about life, as you do. Then, introduce yourself and begin to inject your own opinions.
This is the reason for Yoga forums, or any forum, for that matter. A forum is a place for people to help other people in a small way, by sharing information about their dreams, passions, hobbies, or Yoga.
One of the reasons why wars occur is that common people from different cultures, do not know each other. If you know someone well enough, you may develop a friendship, and nobody wants to quarrel with a friend.
